5 Questions with Arlene Todd, Facilities & Office Coordinator at SBS

  • What is the favourite part of your role?

Working in Corporate Services, my role is to provide an environment that enables SBS to do their best work.  I get to work on different projects that support at times a large number of internal clients and it’s incredibly satisfying to see the end result.

  • What makes you proud to work for SBS?

My parents were Hungarian / Yugoslavian immigrants who raised their children ironically in a very gentrified outer Melbourne suburb. I remember how much I wanted to be just like every other ‘Aussie’ kid at school.  If only I could tell my 10 year old self that I’d one day be incredibly proud to be working for not only one the coolest multi-platform media organisations, but that multiculturalism, inclusion and diversity are genuinely embraced and celebrated here.

  • What is your career highlight at SBS?

Being part of the ‘One Melbourne’ project renovations where we now have a brand new and very beautiful space to work.  Being as passionate as I was about the project, you’d think it was my own home renovation.  We literally worked amongst construction for 18 months,  but now I look at the beautiful space which we get to enjoy and feel proud that I played a part in this.

  • Tell us one thing that you have learned about yourself in the last few weeks

One thing I’ve learned during Melbourne’s lengthy COVID lockdown is that we are collectively stronger and more capable than we would have thought.  I’ve also learned that like many, we’ve had to adapt and look at new ways of working, but despite this have continued to kick the ball right out of the park.

  • If you had one thing to say to our audience…

Embrace and celebrate your own uniqueness as well as the diverse world around you.  It really will allow you to be your best and most authentic self.
