Technical Lead

About the role

You will be part of the team that develops SBS’ digital network (www.sbs.com.au), and help set the long-term vision for the team and decide on the best technologies to use.

You will work closely with both backend and frontend disciplined web developers to build client-side logic for our applications whilst liaising with our in house UI/UX design team to help bridge the gap between graphical design and technical implementation.

More specifically, you will:

  • Lead the technical development of our digital platforms and services.
  • Create architecture for new services that will satisfy emerging needs.
  • Develop new features and improvements to our CMS and other internal applications.
  • Write well designed, testable, efficient code by using best web development practices.
  • Gather and refine specifications and requirements based on technical needs.

About you

We are looking for a passionate, proactive digital technical lead with a wealth of experience working within PHP based projects. As a technical lead, you will be expected to lead and guide your fellow development teammates to design, test and build robust and resilient platforms that will be the foundation of SBS’ digital services for years to come.

You should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience leading a team of technical developers within a digital project.
  • 5+ years proven experience as a Senior Developer.
  • Strong knowledge of PHP and developing using Object Oriented Programming principles.
  • 1-2 years experience working with the Symfony PHP framework.
  • In-depth knowledge of relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB).
  • Strong experience of writing secure code that can be tested within an automated testing framework.
  • Experience in implementing robust services and RESTful API's to power web applications.
  • Self-directed, ability to multi-task, sharp analytical abilities, excellent communication skills, capable of working effectively in a dynamic environment.

What sets you apart from the rest is:

  • Experience with Python, NodeJS, Golang and AWS technologies would be greatly desirable.
  • Experience working with Drupal.
  • Good knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Experience using system monitoring tools (e.g. New Relic) and automated testing frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with network diagnostics, network analytics tools.
  • Proven design skills and able to find creative scalable solutions to difficult problems.
  • Experience working within teams practicing agile sprint methodologies.
