The Digital Platforms Lead is an exciting opportunity for a journalist or digital producer who loves data to make a significant difference in improving the way SBS news content reaches audiences.
This role is a 10 month parental leave backfill leave opportunity, until October 2026, classified as Level 3 role under SBS Australia's current Enterprise Agreement. The successful applicant will be offered remuneration that is commensurate with their skills and experience and in alignment with this framework.
The role involves day shifts across the week.

What you’ll do
As Digital Platforms Lead for SBS News and Current Affairs, you’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering SBS News’ digital distribution and optimisation strategy â driving audience growth, engagement and performance with a specific focus on our website, app, audio podcasts, and third-party platforms.
You’ll be:
Diving into the data and providing clear insights to editorial leads and news teams on content performance, content discovery trends
Identifying opportunities and performance gaps
Recommending improvements to our journalists and producers
Guiding digital leads through best practice, and ensuring our content reaches audiences where they are.
Operating specific projects within the digital news teams to improve and maximise content, such as enhancing and develop new newsletters, refreshing the way we approach specific podcast offerings, implementing new podcast or website features, or mini projects to improve reach of articles
Making a significant and tangible difference to the way SBS news content is reaching audiences
You’ll have a keen eye on digital journalism and platform trends and emerging technologies, keeping SBS at the forefront of digital innovation.
You’ll work collaboratively with departments across the business â including our audience data, marketing and product teams, and you’ll align efforts to strengthen SBS’s digital strategy and improve cross-platform performance.
You’ll also track and report on key metrics, measure impact through analytics tools like Chartbeat, Adobe, and Tableau, and translate data into actionable insights that inform both day-to-day activity and long-term planning.
At its core, this role is about connecting great journalism with audiences more effectively â ensuring SBS content performs at its best, wherever it’s published.
This role is right for you if...
You’ve worked in an editorial role as a journalist or producer, and you enjoy diving into the data to provide insights and recommendations. You’ll have some experience working on digital enhancement or audience growth projects, or a willingness to dive straight into these. You thrive at the intersection of storytelling, technology and analytics, and you know how to translate data into meaningful action.
You’ll bring:
A passion for developing and implementing digital distribution strategies across web, app, audio and social platforms.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and communicate data insights clearly and persuasively.
A collaborative mindset and the confidence to work across teams
Aptitude and enthusiasm to run projects to make a measurable difference to our content
A knack for spotting optimisation opportunities, managing product performance and driving efficiency through improved workflows.
Familiarity with key analytics and performance tools (such as Chartbeat, Adobe Analytics, Apple Analytics, Tableau, etc.), the ability to adapt and learn analytics or content platforms, and the ability to use insights to guide editorial and strategic decisions.
Curiosity about industry trends and emerging platforms, and the initiative to test, evaluate and adopt new tools that strengthen SBS’s digital-first approach.
Excellent communication skills and a solutions-focused approach to stakeholder management and project delivery.
