About the role 

The Indigenous Engagement & Partnerships Manager is responsible for managing relationships with key Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders on issues affecting SBS (including NITV), and providing advice and analysis to inform SBS in relation to content, protocol and operational matters pertaining to First Nations Australians. Some of the duties include: 

  • Designing and implementing a First Nations stakeholder engagement strategy to support engagement with SBS (including NITV); 
  • Facilitating relevant partnerships between SBS and First Nations organisations, businesses and agencies including end to end negotiation, management and delivery of formal partnership agreements; 
  • Representing the interests of SBS within First Nations engagement forums and activities; 
  • Supporting SBS leadership in activities relevant to SBS objectives, including provision of strategic advice, recommendations for engagement and timely supporting materials (eg briefs, letters) where required. 

It is a requirement of this role that incumbents are fully vaccinated with an approved Covid-19 vaccination in line with the ATAGI guidelines which include booster shots. We do however have a medical exemption process and we would be happy to discuss your application should this be applicable to you.

The position has two direct reports so the role also involves giving a clear sense of direction, guiding planning and execution of projects, and supporting ongoing performance and development. 

About you 

We are looking for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with experience in successfully leading an Indigenous engagement function or projects, and providing advice at a senior level, with at least 8 years work experience in the field. Media sector experience is beneficial but not essential. 

Since this role is about relationships, advice, partnerships and impact, the successful applicant will have a demonstrated ability to build consensus in complex and multi-stakeholder environments, including the ability to identify opportunities, plan, escalate issues appropriately, collaborate on solutions and provide thoughtful recommendations and advice.
