The Department

SBS Media is the commercial arm of SBS, responsible for delivering sustainable revenue that supports investment in distinctive SBS content and services.

The division partners with advertisers, agencies and brands to create meaningful, culturally relevant campaigns that connect with Australia’s diverse audiences across television, digital, audio and SBS On Demand. It plays a critical role in balancing commercial growth with SBS’s Charter and public purpose.

The Role

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Director of Media Sales / Chief Commercial Officer is a pivotal executive leadership role, responsible for shaping SBS’s commercial direction and contributing to enterprise-wide strategy and decision making. This role carries national accountability for revenue performance, leading the evolution of SBS’s media sales approach across all platforms in a rapidly changing market.

You will set the vision for SBS’s commercial growth, driving a high-performance culture that balances innovation, accountability and purpose.

Leading a national sales organisation, you will inspire and align senior leaders across agency partnerships, digital and broadcast sales, cultural and language sales, trading and operations, and inclusion programs to deliver against commercial objectives.

Key to success will be your ability to elevate capability, embed consistent standards of excellence, and position SBS as a market leader in culturally relevant, audience-first commercial solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Setting and executing a future-focused, cross-platform sales strategy, with a strong emphasis on digital transformation and programmatic growth
  • Owning and delivering national revenue targets across advertising, sponsorship, partnerships and brand-funded content
  • Leading and developing a high-performing national leadership team, driving alignment, accountability and commercial discipline
  • Building and leveraging senior relationships with key advertisers, agencies and industry partners to unlock new growth opportunities
  • Championing innovation in SBS’s commercial offering, including integrated, culturally distinctive and purpose-led brand solutions

About you

You are a commercially astute and strategic leader with a track record of delivering sustained revenue growth in complex, multi-platform environments. You bring a clear leadership point of view and the ability to mobilise large, geographically dispersed teams toward a common goal.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • Significant executive-level experience in media sales leadership, within broadcast, digital or integrated environments
  • Proven success in driving revenue growth, particularly across digital and programmatic channels
  • Strong commercial acumen, with deep expertise in partnerships, negotiation and client strategy
  • A track record of building, leading and evolving high-performing, national sales organisations
  • Highly developed influencing skills, with the credibility to operate at Executive and Board level
