Digital Journalist - NITV

NITV needs a digital dynamite to contribute to the News team’s online coverage. We are looking for someone who is creative and passionate about Indigenous Affairs to become their new Digital Journalist.

Reporting to the Managing Digital Producer and working under the guidance of the Executive Editor, the successful applicant will write and produce daily stories and update video and multimedia content for all NITV digital platforms.

  • Research, write and produce news articles, create multimedia features, social media and other
    news content on a daily basis, sub edit copy, ensuring they are in-line with SBS Purpose & Values, SBS Codes of Practice and Editorial Guidelines, and deadlines.
  • Write online copy for fast turnaround on breaking news.
  • In conjunction with NITV & SBS Online, develop innovative editorial ideas designed to build
    audience and engagement across NITV/SBS sites.
  • Publish and maintain NITV News television content on the SBS On demand platform.
  • Liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Engage in clear and open communication with NITV INACA team to build online presence.

About you

The successful candidate will be highly motivated with a meticulous eye for detail and will have a high degree of initiative. You will be able to recognise the pressures of working in a deadline driven broadcast environment.

  • Journalism skills, including; reporting, writing and editing skills, and a strong knowledge of local and national Indigenous news and current affairs.
  • A demonstrated ability to work to strict editorial guidelines, tight deadlines, as well as manage long-term projects.
  • Strong skills in social media
  • Ability to find new story-telling methods and the ability to repurpose digital content in a creative way across a variety of mediums and platforms.
  • Proven ability to generate social media content that leads to greater engagement and interaction with online audiences.
  • Good knowledge of media law and community management best-practice, including the ability to moderate and edit forums, blogs and other user-generated content.
