SBS is one of the most unique media organisations in the world. Our News and Current Affairs team has developed a cutting edge digital strategy and wants a journalist who shares our vision of increasing quality content online. SBS wants to lead the way in the delivery of distinctive output across multiple platforms. The network is for all Australians, with a strong mandate for news stories to support, celebrate and appreciate the diversity of Australia’s multicultural society.
About the role
With this in mind, we have an exciting casual role for a senior digital journalist to join our team where the main role will be editing the SBS News homepage.
The right applicant will be passionate about producing news stories to the highest editorial standards. You will cover anything from the top international and national stories of the day as well as those highlighting Australia’s diverse communities.
You must be a seasoned journalist and experienced in social media with strong digital production and editorial skills, along with an in-depth understanding of local and international news and current affairs. You will be a creative thinker knowing how to grow audiences on our website and engagement on our social media platforms. As a senior team member, you will supervise and mentor junior journalists.
Given the nature of the role, you will have a deep understanding of what makes content shareable online, and be proficient in using front-end development methods and visualisation tools to enhance storytelling.
News happens around the clock and you must be willing and able to undertake hours that may occasionally involve early mornings, evenings and weekends.
