We’re offering a 12 month Journalism Cadetship in 2019 to a person of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background who wants to build a career in broadcast journalism.

The successful candidate will be based in SBS’s News and Current Affairs division in Sydney, with placements on World News’ cross platform news desk (TV, Radio and Online), Melbourne and Canberra bureaux and on current affairs programs - Dateline, Insight and The Feed – and within NITV’s Indigenous News and Current Affairs department.
As part of a team, the Cadet will be responsible for researching, producing and reporting news and current affairs content to the required SBS standards. This full-time role will require shift-work, including evenings and weekends.
Ideally, you will have had training in television, radio and online journalism, or be able to demonstrate a strong interest in broadcast journalism and have a sound understanding of the social, political, and cultural issues affecting indigenous people in Australia.

This Cadetship is offered for one year with no guarantee of ongoing employment. However, a Cadet who successfully completes the program may be considered for any relevant SBS vacancies.
