With a content portfolio like no other media organisation in the country, SBS occupies multiple channels and platforms, and provides a unique opportunity for employees to help make Australia a better place to live.

NITV Political Correspondent

There’s a great power in difference. We must see the world through a different lens and apply a filter on what’s important. It’s not about taking sides, but understanding them. We are looking for people who want to come on a journey somewhere different, tell stories with a difference and highlight the wonderful differences we share. In Indigenous News and Current Affairs, it makes a world of difference.

About the Role

NITV is committed to driving a national conversation around Indigenous Affairs and increasing the presence of Indigenous voices and perspectives in the nation's media. Through programs like The Point, Living Black and NITV News, and across our growing digital platforms, we are investigating the issues and events that impact Australia's first peoples.

As a key member of a national team, the Political Correspondent will be based within the SBS Canberra Bureau in Parliament House and will be responsible for politically focused, cross-platform reporting.

This is a 12 month full-time opportunity for a talented and highly motivated Journalist who's up for a challenge.

About You

We are looking for someone who has a passion for politics and the desire to deliver ground-breaking, original journalism. Someone who is a committed Political Correspondent who's prepared to venture beyond the daily news cycle. In addition to this the right applicant will have;

  • A solid understanding of Indigenous Affairs and the broader issues that affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Proven experience as a journalist with a good knowledge of television production techniques and the ability to deliver to deadline.
  • The ability to initiate and develop story ideas with minimal supervision and deliver to the highest editorial standard across multiple platforms as NITV's sole Political Correspondent.
  • The ability to operate as a Video Journalist; a working knowledge of camera operation and digital editing for news is important as this role will occasionally require this of the Correspondent.

Applicants must identify as being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent (the filling of this employment opportunity is intended to constitute an affirmative measure under subsection 8 (1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975.)
