SBS News is looking for an experienced and responsible journalist with a background in TV and digital to join our innovative newsroom in Sydney for a 12 month contract.

You’ll be part of a team which delivers distinctive cross platform stories of the highest editorial standards that highlight Australia’s multicultural nature and celebrate diversity.


You will have news production experience and television news bulletin line-up skills, with an understanding of visual storytelling both on air and online.

You will have the ability to identify stories that enhance the reputations of both SBS World News and as authoritative and trusted news sources.

You will be a self-starter and a strong communicator who can motivate and lead reporters. SBS is seeking an original thinker who can make decisions under pressure.  An ability to work quickly under demanding deadlines is also required.  Top writing skills are a must.

You will also possess a good knowledge of media law.

Understanding the importance of social media and driving content online is a key part of the role.  At times you may be asked to contribute to our online and radio platforms.

The role demands an interest and knowledge of both international and national events.

In addition you will have a sound understanding of stories which resonate with our diverse audiences, and adhere to the requirements of both the SBS Charter and SBS Code of Conduct.

An ability to work a 7 day shift work roster is essential.
