Operations Technical Specialist

We’re looking for an Operations Technical Specialist to support the Managed Services team in dealing with SBS internal clients, manage services providers, vendors and solutions developers to ensure that our current and future operations broadcast technology needs are met.

About the role 

This is a full-time permanent opportunity. The role is part of a specialised team of 3 however working with many different stakeholders across the business on meaningful and purposeful projects that change the life our audiences.

Reporting into the Operations Technical Manager, the Operations Technical Specialist is responsible for ensuring the contractual compliance of outsourced service functions, variance analysis, preparation of reports, development of operational protocols and maintenance of operational documents; the role is also the liaison with other technical departments to ensure the efficiency of operation of distribution and transmission systems to make sure that we have the most reliable and high-quality broadcast delivery to SBS audiences. These are some additional details of what the role would be involved in (but not limited to):

  • Leading and/or assisting with planning broadcast distribution, transmission and associated monitoring systems
  • Undertaking technical and contractual assessments of Digital TV, Radio and Online distribution networks to ensure that contractual performance and technical parameters are being met or exceeded, including evaluation of associated reports
  • Representing SBS at agreed governance committees and appropriately identified forums with various vendors
  • Providing technical guidance covering event planning, programme resource patching and inter-departmental liaisons
  • Acting as an escalation point between SBS departments and vendors to facilitate successful operational outcomes; and acting as a conduit between SBS and Managed Service providers to capture technical requirements for major events for SBS

  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with different teams on projects
  • Demonstrated experience in broadcast or related industry in engineering/operations role
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in broadcast delivery (headend, distribution and transmission systems) within complex broadcast environments (i.e. digital television, analogue radio and digital radio)
  • Experience and understanding of IP-based delivery platforms in a broadcast/communications delivery environment and the associated impacts on the broadcast platform and the audience during fault conditions/network degradation
