Digital Sub Editor - News

This role is a permanent, full-time position, based from our Sydney or Melbourne office. 

This role is classified as Level 3 role under SBS Australia's current Enterprise Agreement (with a base salary range of $89,140 - $96,482). The successful applicant will be offered remuneration that is commensurate with their skills and experience and in alignment with this framework.

The Role

We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Sub-Editor to work across SBS News’ digital platforms. 

Duties will include:

  • Preparing content ready for publication across SBS News digital output 

  • Sub-editing, amending, and publishing copy, derived from wires and original content from SBS News journalists, to ensure balance, factual correctness and adherence with style guides and Codes of Practice 

  • Sub-editing across different verticals, adapting to different tones and styles for copy including video, social posts, graphic explainers and data visualisations in a timely fashion to maximise audience growth and engagement 

  • Developing engaging headlines engineered for SEO performance 

  • Developing and maintaining a strong working knowledge of CMS operations and best practice to publish content to the SBS News site when required 

About you

You must be a confident and creative sub-editor with a strong eye for detail and the angles that matter to our audience. 

You’ll need a strong understanding of media law, flawless subbing, and strong headline writing skills. 

You’ll be committed to maintaining our editorial integrity and maximising our publishing reach.  

The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience as a sub-editor.
