NITV Communications Manager

This role is classified as Level 6 Commercial (annual base salary $126,040- $140,000) under SBS Australia's current Enterprise Agreement. The successful applicant will be offered remuneration that is commensurate with their skills and experience and in alignment with this framework.

About NITV 

NITV has a distinct identity and unique purpose as part of the SBS network and is primarily produced by, for and about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; in turn promoting an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures to all Australians. 

NITV’s purpose is to shape the Australian identity, amplify First Nations stories and place, and connect with those that call Australia home. In doing so, NITV seeks to grow its audiences and channels, sharing authentic, meaningful stories that continue to heal and celebrate, cleanse, grow and inspire Australia’s identity and purpose. 

The Role 

This role is part of the NITV team and resides within SBS’ Publicity team in the Marketing department. The role reports to the Head of Publicity, with additional reporting into the Corporate Communications team.   

This role will lead and execute strategic communication strategies focused on raising awareness for NITV commissions, broadening NITV’s reach in storytelling with and for community, and leading NITV’s reputation and proactive strategic communications campaigns through media including print, online, broadcast, and social channels. This role includes promotion of NITV talent and programs including news and current affairs, sport, entertainment, documentaries, and drama.  

 Key responsibilities include: 

 

  • Lead all end-to-end communications campaigns and activities to successfully promote NITV programs and talent with cultural authenticity. 

  • Ensure First Nations cultural knowledge, appreciation, and authenticity in all NITV strategic communications.   

  • Drive positive awareness of NITV’s reputation through developing and delivering strong media relations, issues management, risk mitigation, and proactive strategic communications activity including speaking engagements. 

  • Deliver strategic communications that sees NITV programming contributing to the national conversation around First Nations affairs, positioning NITV as a leading voice on First Nations matters across the Australian media landscape.    

  • Develop and manage key relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as including NITV executives, talent, agents, media and producers. 

  • Identify and manage reputational risks, including development of crisis management communications plans and liaising with media and relevant stakeholders as required.

About you 

We’re looking for someone who brings: 

 

  • Strong experience in implementing effective publicity and communications campaigns and a proven ability to work on complex campaigns independently with limited senior supervision. 

  • Demonstrated understanding of First Nations cultural capability, ability to represent First Nations perspectives, and and understanding of the First Nations media landscape and history.  

  • Expertise in talent management skills with experience coordinating events and photoshoots. 

  • Ability to influence without authority and lead key stakeholder relationships internally and externally such as media, talent and First Nations audiences.  

  • Broad knowledge of the Australian media landscape and a strong relationship with key entertainment media. 

  • Excellent writing and editing skills with demonstrated experience writing effective story pitches, key messages, media releases, media kits, Q&A and talking points.
