Social and Video Producer - Casual

 This role is classified as Level 2 Content and Production role under SBS Australia's current Enterprise Agreement with a base salary range of $68,239- $89,139 (full time equivalent). The successful applicant will be offered remuneration that is commensurate with their skills and experience and in alignment with this framework. 

As a rostered shiftworker, additional shift penalty payments may apply for work performed outside of ordinary hours, including weekends and public holidays, as per the SBS Enterprise Agreement (EA). SBS may also require you to work reasonable overtime, where overtime will be paid at applicable rates in accordance with the EA.

The Department 

The principal purpose of SBS News and Current Affairs is to provide the most accurate, balanced, and detailed coverage of international and major domestic news across all platforms. It is our role to deliver depth and analysis to help our audiences understand often complex issues. We also seek to showcase stories from within our many communities that reflect constructively on multiculturalism & Indigenous affairs. 

The Role 

Reporting to the Social Lead, the Casual Social and Video Producer will play a critical role in delivering impactful and engaging content for audiences on third party platforms. Working closely with the Video and Social Supervising Producer, the design team and the wider social-video team, this role spans content creation, news production/distribution and community management.  

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Enhancing SBS Content: ensuring our content aligns with the distinct identity of SBS, adheres to its digital strategy and Charter, and reflects its values of balance and accuracy. 

  • Platform-specific Content Creation: You'll pitch and create content tailored for various platforms, managing the publishing process and optimizing content for maximum reach and impact. 

  • Original Content Production: Alongside repurposing existing content, you'll also be involved in creating original articles, social media posts and videos as needed. 

  • Optimising Content for Distribution: Your role includes editing, formatting, and optimizing videos and social media posts for third-party platforms. 

  • News Monitoring and Analysis: Using your strong news sense and journalistic intuition, you'll keep across and digest major news events, trending and developing stories and use this information to inform your pitches. 

  • Team Collaboration: You'll work closely with various teams within SBS to coordinate content creation, publishing schedules, and overall digital news output schedules for social media platforms.  

About you 

We’re looking for someone who brings: 

  • Journalism Experience: Demonstrated experience in digital journalism, particularly in video and social media. 

  • Strong Editorial Judgment: Your ability to exercise sound editorial judgment will be essential, along with being a team player who can adapt to various tasks. 

  • Ethical Awareness: An understanding of journalistic ethics and media law, including content verification practices and risk management on third party platforms.   

  • Digital Proficiency: Experience in digital production, including working with publishing and scheduling platforms, content optimization, and managing third-party platforms. 

  • Data Literacy: Ability to make data-informed decisions and analyse content performance metrics.
