The Department

SBS’s News and Current Affairs (NACA) team delivers trusted, multilingual journalism that reflects Australia’s diversity. Through distinctive storytelling across TV, digital and social platforms, NACA informs, engages and connects communities — helping SBS achieve its purpose of inspiring Australians to explore, respect and celebrate our diverse world.

The Role

Reporting to the NACA Technology Manager the Technical Operations Lead will play a critical role in ensuring the seamless technical operation of the newsroom — supporting journalists, editors and production teams with the tools, systems and workflows needed to deliver trusted, high-quality news and current affairs content across platforms.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing the day-to-day technical operations of the NACA newsroom to ensure reliable, high-quality news production across all platforms.
• Supporting journalists, editors and production teams by troubleshooting technical issues and maintaining essential newsroom systems and equipment. 
• Overseeing technology assets and coordinating upgrades, replacements and workflow improvements in collaboration with IT and Corporate Services.
• Delivering training, onboarding and clear technical documentation to build capability and consistency across the newsroom.
• Contributing to technology projects and innovation initiatives that enhance efficiency and enable SBS to deliver trusted, diverse journalism.

About you

We’re looking for someone who brings:

• A proven background in broadcast or newsroom technology operations, with hands-on experience supporting production teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong expertise in troubleshooting, workflow management and the use of media asset systems, editing platforms and newsroom tools.
• Demonstrated success in managing technical assets, coordinating upgrades and improving operational efficiency across teams.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to train and support colleagues at all levels.
• A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and a commitment to SBS’s purpose of delivering trusted, diverse and inclusive journalism.
