The Department

The Corporate Communications team is responsible for the delivery of external and internal communications functions at SBS, providing high quality, strategic media and reputation management for SBS.

Corporate Communications is part of the Corporate Affairs Division, which provides support to SBS through a range of internal and external stakeholder engagement including government and regulatory affairs; community engagement and outreach; code of practice advice; corporate communications advice and management; and secretariat support to the SBS Board.

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated communications professional to manage internal communications, as a critical member of the Corporate Communications team. 

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Communications, this varied, fast-paced and dynamic role is responsible for the delivery of strategic internal communications for the organisation, that inform and inspire SBS’s diverse and passionate employees.

We're looking for an innovative and collaborative problem solver with outstanding organisation and writing skills, to deliver high quality internal communications that engage our people around our unique purpose.  

The main requirements of the role include:

  • Managing SBS’s primary internal communications channels, including ownership of the employee intranet.  
  • Developing and implementing communications plans, producing content and events to support network projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Coordinating regular organisational communications as required to a consistently high standard.
  • Able to manage a range of multiple and complex issues with judgement, discretion and foresight.
  • Providing strategic and trusted communications advice to stakeholders across the organisation, including senior leaders.
  • Working with the Corporate Communications team, and stakeholders, in a positive and collaborative manner, consistent with SBS values.
  • It is a requirement of this role that incumbents are vaccinated with at least two doses of an approved Covid-19 vaccination. We do however have a medical exemption process and we would be happy to discuss your application should this be applicable to you.

You'll be working closely with a range of different areas at SBS so an ability to build constructive working relationships quickly is important.

You won’t be afraid of getting your hands dirty, and will be eager to immerse yourself in all that SBS does to gain a thorough understanding of the organisation and its people, to become a trusted go-to for internal communications advice and support.

As a member of the Corporate Communications team, you’ll understand the role of SBS in the Australian media landscape, and the context within which it operates.

It is a requirement of this role that incumbents are vaccinated with at least two doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccination. We do however have a medical exemption process and we would be happy to discuss your application should this be applicable to you. 

About you

  • A demonstrated ability to develop and deliver communications campaigns and/or projects. 
  • Highly developed writing skills with attention to detail, and demonstrated experience writing clear and effective communications for a range of purposes and audiences, including at short notice.
  • Experience delivering internal communications projects, managing intranet and internal communications tools is desirable. Demonstrated understanding of internal communications is a must.
  • An ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in considering and resolving issues.
  • Experience in a fast-paced team environment, with a passion for learning, ongoing development and sharing knowledge.  
  • You have an understanding of the Australian media landscape, public broadcasting environment, and issues relevant for SBS and our employees.
