The Department

Our People & Culture team have a vision to create amazing employee experiences and we’d welcome an equally amazing Head of P&C Operations and Services to join our hard working, inclusive and client focussed team in this full-time permanent opportunity. The P&C team is a close-knit team; we look after one another, we work hard but also love a good laugh.  We offer the full range of HR services to the SBS business including Talent & Development, Employment Relations, Leadership Development, Safety and Wellbeing and Business Partnering as well as Payroll, Employee Services, and HR Administration.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of People & Culture, and a member of the P&C leadership team, you will balance a combination of both virtual and onsite work in Artarmon, Sydney from 2022.

You will take on the end to end people, operational and strategic management of the SBS People & Culture Operations and Services team. The role leads payroll, remuneration and benefits, HR systems and processes, data and reporting, as well as front line client support of employee queries and P&C administration.

You will have the opportunity to re-shape P&C services and operations at SBS to drive greater innovation, as well as improving employee experiences and delivering service enhancements through new operating models, streamlined processes and automation.

This is a leadership role with 4 direct reports and a wider team of approx. ten indirect reports.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the team of payroll, administrative services, employee support and reporting specialists to deliver the highest quality P&C services to the SBS business in line with our strategic priorities
  • Accountability for the end to end delivery of high quality and compliant payroll and related services to the SBS business
  • Ensuring the delivery of responsive, accurate and proactive front line service to employee and manager queries (policy and entitlements, leave, payroll, people movements and mobility) and building self service capability across SBS
  • Leading P&C administration processes, including employee contracts, letters of offer and variations, onboarding and offboarding, delivering within agreed SLAs.
  • Ensuring appropriate levels of oversight and governance are in place whilst delivering a strong service and client oriented culture
  • Ensuring SBS payroll is compliant with all internal audit and governance requirements as well as meeting accuracy and error rate KPIs

  • Further refining the overall SBS Remuneration framework and ensuring implementation of related policies and practices alongside a revised annual salary review process

About you

As the successful candidate you will be able to balance the operational requirements with meeting the needs of the business. You’ll be adept at resolving problems, thinking outside the box, negotiating successfully and confidently at all levels, whilst juggling multiple priorities at the same time. An ability to ease into an operationally complex environment and to identify opportunities for better ways of working would be an advantage, as would a strong background in Remuneration and Benefits philosophy and automation.

You will act as a subject matter expert but be adept in delegating and deploying the skills and resources that are available to you in order to optimise outcomes and service delivery back to the business, and you’ll jump in to all areas when needed so we can ensure we deliver amazing employee experiences and meet our objectives.

The right person to join our team will be a Payroll and/or Operations expert who can hit the ground running, experienced in leading people and teams with diverse functions and needs, and able to demonstrate:

  • Outstanding and influential relationships with internal and external stakeholders including senior leaders at an ExCom level
  • Best practice knowledge across payroll, superannuation, remuneration, HR operations, shared services, all within a legislative compliance umbrella.
  • Proven experience in identifying opportunities, and managing change initiatives through effective consultation and implementation in order to deliver on strategy
  • Excellent communication, persuasion and influencing skills
  • How you’ve delivered strategic initiatives to achieve tangible outcomes and how they’ve aligned to core business vision

It is a requirement of this role that any successful candidate is vaccinated with at least two doses of an approved Covid-19 vaccination. We do however have a medical exemption process and we would be happy to discuss your application should this be applicable to you.
