Librarian - Indigenous News and Current Affairs

About the role 

The NITV Indigenous News and Current Affairs team (INACA) is looking for a highly organised, enthusiastic media librarian to manage the flow of original material through the newsroom.

The INACA librarian will support daily news broadcasts, online content creation and current affairs programs to bring Indigenous stories and perspectives to a wider Australian audience.

The Role

We are looking for a candidate with experience in information management, data entry and database systems to work alongside our small team of journalists, producers, and production staff in our Sydney newsroom. In this role you will:

  • Research and respond to requests to retrieve footage for INACA programs and projects
  • Template and shortlist news bulletins, current affairs programs and raw footage accurately recording all relevant information with particular attention to the names and correct titles of key figures featured.
  • Confidently navigate the non-linear system to find and to archive clips, adding the appropriate metadata.
  • Liaise effectively with NITV News journalists, producers and production staff.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of national and international news and Indigenous affairs.

This role is a full time position, based in our Sydney newsroom,

About you 

Ideally you will have:

  • Experience in database management and a keen eye for detail in data entry with experience in a News Library or similar environment highly regarded.
  • Strong analytical and research skills particularly database and Internet-based research.
  • Sound knowledge of local and international news and Indigenous affairs.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills including the ability to liaise effectively with journalists and team members.
  • A positive and solutions oriented attitude, with the ability to work under pressure and meet strict broadcast deadlines
  • A sound knowledge of Indigenous Affairs, culture and issues as well as an understanding of correct protocols when dealing with Indigenous communities and individual communities.
