This role is classified as Level 5 Content and Production ($104,088 - $122,966 base salary) under SBS Australia's current Enterprise Agreement. The successful applicant will be offered remuneration that is commensurate with their skills and experience in alignment with this framework.

NITV has a distinct identity and unique purpose as part of the SBS network and is primarily produced by, for and about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; in turn promoting an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures to all Australians. 

NITV first launched as the National Indigenous broadcaster in 2007 and in 2012, became a part of the SBS network becoming available to all Australians on free-to-air television.  Not only did this improve accessibility for Indigenous people, it made NITV available to all Australians - showcasing the oldest continuous culture on Earth, and in particular facilitating connections with the newest Australians.

NITV’s purpose is to shape the Australian identity, amplify First Nations stories and place, and connect with those that call Australia home. The Role

This role represents a key part of the team, producing NITV’s current affairs program The Point and other content as directed. It will involve the management of the Senior and supporting the Executive Producer and Executive Editor, ensuring high quality production and editorial standards are met.

In this role, you will:

• be responsible for overseeing the production of NITV’s current affairs show "The Point" and other content as directed by the Executive Producer and Executive Editor
• Manage, Research, Create and Deliver Content for The Point and other INACA Productions as directed.
• Script write, fact check and field producing as directed.
• Work closely with the Executive Producer and Executive Editor to research, plan, liaise with talent and produce compelling content for broadcast.
• Supervise all deliverables, promos and On Demand content as required.
• Work with Executive Producer and Executive Editor leads to create distinctive and engaging online content for social media as required.

About you

Ideally, you will have:

• Proven, demonstrable, known, industry experience as a Senior Producer and Production skills as a journalist
• Strong understanding of Indigenous Affairs covering topics of interest, news, and current issues.
• Strong background and experience in television journalism and or Production of factual Current Affairs or documentary-style programming, preferably at a senior level
• A thorough understanding and working knowledge of all aspects of current affairs television production techniques and requirements, including high level script writing skills and a thorough understanding of shooting and editing of stories and segments
• A reasonable understanding of Indigenous protocols and sensitivity to Indigenous cultural protocols and permissions, especially as they relate to news/media.
